Former West Ham favourite names the player the club must keep hold of at all costs

    West Ham must keep hold of midfield star Manuel Lanzini at all costs, says former Hammers defender Tony Gale.
    He believes the Argentinian will be THE player of the season for manager Slaven Bilic.
    And Gale fears that, if Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho moves to Barcelona, then Lanzini, 24, will be a target for Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp.
    “It is vital West Ham do not lose Lanzini,” said Gale. “He could be the star of this season for the club.
    “He is special and, with the new players Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic around him, Lanzini can have an even bigger impact.
    “He is one of those gifted players who wants the ball and wants to keep it to create something.
    “He puts me in mind of Trevor Brooking and Alan Devonshire. They held the ball and ran with it.
    “I think he will be the next player to go for an astronomical fee.”

    Gale – a key man in the West Ham team to finish third in the top flight in 1986 and a 1995 Premier League winner with Blackburn – thinks the West Ham board could face a real test over Lanzini.
    “With the money they have had coming in, with the sale of Dimitri Payet and James Tomkins, I reckon their net spending has been £13million.
    “So they have the money and, if the board are as good as their word, they MUST keep Lanzini.”
